This half-term, our topic has been ‘Dinosaurs’, and we have also been learning about Chinese New Year.

I would like to say a big thank you to all the parents, children, and staff who have welcomed me into Nursery and made me feel so much a part of the class.

The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the different types of dinosaurs and what they like to eat. In Phonics, we have been revising the sounds m, a, s, d, t, and i. In Maths, the children have been learning to count to 10 forwards and backwards, exploring positional language, and identifying different 2D shapes.

It has been a wonderful half-term, and I’m very proud of all the children’s enthusiasm and progress.

Reception have settled very well into the Spring Term and are now familiar with our daily routines and expectations.

The children are showing growing independence and continuing to build strong, positive relationships.

This term, our topic has been ‘Dinosaurs’, which has captured the children’s imagination and enthusiasm for learning. Inside, our classroom has transformed into a Dinosaur Museum, while outside we have explored learning through a Dinosaur Park, encouraging creative play, investigation and teamwork.

We have enjoyed a range of exciting texts including Tom and the Island of Dinosaurs, The Littlest Dinosaur and The Girl and the Dinosaur. These stories have inspired lots of discussion, vocabulary development and early writing opportunities.

In maths, we have continued to develop our number skills within 10. This has included counting, recognising and ordering numbers, as well as finding one more and one fewer. We have also begun to explore simple addition and subtraction.

Our phonics learning continues to progress well, with children confidently identifying sounds and using ‘Fred Talk’ to blend words when reading and writing.

We have also enjoyed lots of creative and hands-on learning throughout the term. Highlights have included hatching a class dinosaur egg, creating dinosaur skeletons, fossils and clay models, and experimenting with volcanoes.

A Busy Half Term in Year 1!

It has been a busy half term for Year 1, and we are so proud of how much the children have achieved. Our classrooms have been bursting with creativity as we explored the works of Piet Mondrian and Paul Klee. The children did a fantastic job applying these styles to their own work, culminating in some truly impressive printed landscapes.

In Mathematics, we have been diving deep into the world of numbers. We’ve had a wonderful time mastering time and numbers up to 50. The children are becoming experts in place value and are showing great independence when using maths resources to support their learning.

Our Shared Reading sessions have been a highlight, with many stories shared and enjoyed. However, a clear favorite emerged: A Little Bit Brave. This lovely story has sparked great conversations about how we can show bravery and resilience in our everyday lives.

Finally, our Geography lessons took us on a trip around the globe! We have been exploring various world climates and learning all about the unique characteristics and locations of tropical rainforests. The children’s curiosity has been endless, and we can’t wait to see what new adventures the next half term brings!

Our Year 1/2 students have been buzzing with curiosity and creativity across all their subjects.

In Maths, we have been mastering the art of telling the time, learning how to track our busy days using a clock. Our science lessons have turned the classrooms into mini-zoos as the children practice their classification skills, grouping animals by their habitats and features.

The creativity didn’t stop there; in art, we’ve been getting our hands messy with experimental printing techniques, exploring patterns and textures. Finally, in PSHE, we’ve been looking toward the future. The children have been sharing their personal goals and discussing the small steps they can take to achieve big things. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence and ambition grow!

We have had a lovely half term in Year 2!

In Geography and Shared Reading, the children have been busy exploring the rainforest and learning about its unique environment.

In Art, we have been introduced to the skill of printmaking, where the children have enjoyed experimenting with different techniques. Additionally, our Science lessons have focused on how to look after our bodies and the importance of staying healthy.

Year 3 has had an electrifying term!

In Literacy, we’ve been exploring the world of Roald Dahl, writing character descriptions for The Twits, diary entries, and insightful biographies on the author himself. Our Science and DT lessons saw the children becoming engineers; after investigating conductors and insulators, they successfully built their own working lamps and torches.

This hands-on learning extended into Geography, where we’ve been discussing climate change and the practical ways we can protect our environment. We are so proud of the children’s hard work and creativity!

From glowing bulbs to magical books, Year 4 has been alight with creativity this half-term.

To kick things off, the children linked their science and art skills to design and build their own lampshades—a bright idea that brought our Energy and Electricity topic to life! Beyond the art studio, we’ve been explorers of the invisible, testing the wonders of static and magnetic electricity.

Our maths lessons have seen the children mastering the ‘ticking clock’ of Time and diving deep into the worlds of Fractions and Decimals.

We wrapped up the term by cheering on the heroic Matilda in our Shared Reading. It’s been a joy to watch the children’s imaginations grow. While the children were enchanted by Matilda’s magical brainpower, they all agreed they are very glad that ‘The Chokey’ and Miss Trunchbull haven’t made an appearance here at Murrayfield!

In Year 5 we have been reading Goodnight Mister Tom.

The children have enjoyed getting to know the characters in the book and learning about life during World War II. In our maths lessons we have been looking at fractions, percentages and angles. The children worked incredibly hard and are now able to measure angles accurately using a protractor.

We have been looking at plants and the different types of pollination in our science lessons, with the children becoming coconuts, floating towards land to find a suitable place to grow.

This term, Year 6 pupils have shown great dedication to their learning.

In Shared Reading, we explored the enchanting world of C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Building on our previous study of The Enemy, pupils produced high-quality diary entries, discursive texts, non-chronological reports, and character descriptions for our Literacy and language.

In Mathematics,we strengthened our skills in decimals, measures, percentages, and geometry. Our Humanities curriculum focused on “Climate, Environment, and Us,” encouraging pupils to consider their global impact. Science lessons centred on plant biology and pollination, featuring a memorable simulation where pupils acted as floating coconuts to demonstrate seed dispersal.

In PSHE, children reflected on their “Dreams and Goals,” while in Spanish, they mastered greetings and food-related vocabularyIn . In Art, pupils worked in teams to build structures, focusing on techniques to ensure their designs were strong and stable.

We would like to say a massive “Well Done” to all of Year 6 for their continued hard work and enthusiasm. It has been a pleasure to see such progress across all subjects.
