Nursery have had a wonderful start to the term and are settling into their new routines. The children have been exploring their learning environment and making lots of new friends.

Our topic this half term is ‘Marvellous Me’ and we have been learning all about ourselves and our families. We have enjoyed some great books, such as Going on a Bear Hunt and Dear Zoo, and the children have been joining in and retelling the stories. We have also been learning how to wash our hands and about different types of food. In maths we have been learning numbers to 5 and how to count accurately.

We have also started our phonics programme and have been focusing on a different sound each week. In Art week the children drew some lovely self-portraits and have been naming parts of the body and exploring emotions. Well done Nursery for such a super start to school!

Reception have had a fantastic start to the year and all of our pupils have settled in really well. The children have been getting to know their new friends and teachers. This term, our topic is ‘Marvellous Me’ – this has given us an opportunity to talk about ourselves and our families, creating our own self-portraits and family trees.

In maths, we have been learning all about repeating patterns and early number. We are working on recognising, counting and writing up to 10. We have enjoyed some fantastic stories, including This is the Bear, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and the Gruffalo.

Our phonics learning is going well, with pupils now identifying sounds, and beginning to use ‘Fred Talk’ to blend words. Well done Reception for a great start to school. Next term, our topic will be ‘Celebrations’.

We’ve had a wonderful and busy start to our school year in Year 1!

In Science, we have been learning all about plants – how they grow and the different parts that help them live. In Art, we had so much fun creating our own clay pots, decorating them with different patterns and designs.

Our Shared Reading lessons have been filled with exciting stories, and so far, our class favourite is Tiddler! The children have really enjoyed joining in with the story and talking about their favourite parts.

In Maths, we have worked very hard learning about numbers up to 10, as well as shapes and patterns. Our favourite lessons were all about shapes, we explored 2D shapes, made repeating patterns, and even used them to build our own creations!

In History, we travelled back in time to learn about life in the Victorian era. We compared toys, clothes, and daily life from then to now, discovering just how much things have changed.

It’s been a fantastic half term full of curiosity, creativity, and learning. We can’t wait to see what next half term brings, with new books, new art projects, and even more exciting Maths challenges!

What a wonderfully busy and creative few weeks! In maths, the children have been fantastic at tackling partitioning, learning to break down numbers in different ways. Our science lessons explored the seasons, examining how the weather and nature change throughout the year.

In history, we stepped back in time to explore Victorian childhood, which sparked some great discussions. Finally, our art sessions culminated in some truly amazing creations—the children used their hands to craft and decorate beautiful clay pots, showing off wonderful focus and attention to detail. We are so proud of all their hard work!

In year three we have been studying place value and addition and subtraction, the children have really challenged themselves to solve regrouping and exchanging questions using manipulatives and column methods. The children have shown maths skills in their science as well performing experiments to test states of matter by melting substances. Some have even gone as far as using their maths skills to present our scientific findings in data and graphs.

The classes have both really enjoyed our learning on Ancient Greece. They especially enjoyed stories of the mythical creatures and comparing the lifestyle and culture of the Spartans and Athenians.

This is year 3’s first term learning a new language, in French we have learnt greetings, how to give your name and numbers. The children are very confident now in greeting their teachers in French. PE has been very exciting for the children, learning about hockey and techniques for the game.

Lastly, the class have shown great strides in engaging in the programme of “reading plus” to further their comprehension skills. We are very proud of how the class has settled in this half term.

Year 4 have been working hard this half term. We have already completed our first book, Emil and the Detectives, which led us to solve the crime of stolen money in Berlin. We have now moved onto the Shakespeare play The Tempest, which has been a hit with its magical themes.

In history, we have been looking at the Romans while they were in the UK including Boudicca’s revolt and how the Romans changed the lives of people living in the UK. We have also been looking at matter and changes of state in science and have followed scientific enquiry to explore these themes.

We have had a fantastic start to year 5. We have been studying poetry within our literacy and language lessons, focusing on the five senses. The children have created some great poems.

This half term we have read Darren Shan’s Cirque du Freak! The children have really engaged with this book, the world of Darren Shan has had them on the edge of their seats. We have been studying Henry VIII in our history lessons, the children have enjoyed learning about his six wives and debating whether he was a good or bad King.

Year 6 has a great start to the academic year. Well done to all pupils in year 6 you have worked extremely hard this term. In literacy and language we began the term writing different types of poetry with some amazing outcomes. We have been learning about the impact of industrialisation during the Victorian period and have had some great class based discussions, with the pupils realising how lucky they are not having to work long hours in mines, factories, as chimney sweeps, which was the fate of children at that time.

In science we have been investigating how our organs work and how the blood in our bodies work. Art week this term was food tech and the pupils were able to make their own on – the – go food product in the shape of a healthy wrap. We have completed two books in shared reading this term – Kesuke’s Kingdom and the Journey to Jo’Burg which the children enjoyed.

We began this term by welcoming new pupils. Our Leappad 1 students have significantly developed their social and interaction skills. They achieved this by getting to know one another through social games, familiarising themselves with school routines using the interactive “now and next” board, and learning the importance of etiquette and manners.

In Leappad this term, we demonstrated great skill while learning about the life cycles of plants. In our topic work, we explored the Ancient Greeks, focusing on the differences in what boys and girls were allowed to do during that time.

In Maths, we worked hard on addition and subtraction, exploring various strategies to deepen our understanding.

We thoroughly enjoyed our shared reading sessions. Our favourite books were “Hansel and Gretel” and “The Rainbow Fish,” both of which served as inspiration for exciting writing tasks. The children also really enjoyed Art, developing their printing skills by creating mono prints with their favourite colours.

It’s been a busy but rewarding half term, and we’ve learned so much! We look forward to an equally productive and enjoyable time next half term.

This half term, the pupils in the Leappad 2 have been engaging in a diverse and stimulating curriculum. In English, they’ve explored the expressive world of poetry focusing on belonging and culture, while their reading sessions have seen them enjoy the dark fantasy of Cirque du Freak and are now immersed in Philip Pullman’s intriguing novel, Clockwork.

Maths has focused on building a solid foundation in numeracy, covering place value, tables, and interpreting graphs and data. History has sparked lively debate as the students critically examine the reign of Henry VIII, weighing the evidence to determine if he was indeed a tyrant. Their science studies have taken a deep dive into the human body, with a particular focus on the vital functions of the lungs, heart, blood, and the intricacies of the double circulatory system.

Creatively, the students have been rocking out in music, learning about and imitating rock music riffs on ukuleles, and in Computing, they’ve transformed into coders, learning the principles of programming to create their own games.
