This term, our topic in Nursery has been New Life.

The children have been learning about a variety of animals and their life cycles, including frogs and caterpillars. They have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm as they explored how living things grow and change. As part of this topic, each child had the opportunity to plant a seed and observe how it grows over time, helping them develop an understanding of nature and responsibility.

In Maths, the children have been enjoying learning to count to 10, both forwards and backwards. We have also explored different 2D shapes and introduced concepts such as capacity and size through hands-on activities.

In Phonics, we have been learning our Set 1 sounds and practising writing our names. A key focus has been on developing correct pencil grip to support early writing skills.

The children have particularly enjoyed using practical, hands-on resources to support their learning, which has helped to make their experiences engaging and meaningful.

It has been another busy half term in Reception, with our learning focusing on new life.

Inside the classroom, our role play area was transformed into a Garden Centre and Farm Shop, where the children enjoyed imaginative play and taking on roles such as gardeners, farmers and shopkeepers.

In Literacy, we shared stories including From Seed to Sunflower, The Hungry Caterpillar, Jack and the Beanstalk and The Little Red Hen. These inspired a range of writing activities where the children practised labelling, writing captions, retelling stories and writing simple instructions, such as how to plant a seed. It has been wonderful to see their confidence in writing grow.

In Maths, the children developed their understanding of number bonds to 10, number patterns within 15, doubling and halves.

In PSHE, our topic was “Healthy Me,” where we discussed ways to keep our bodies healthy, including exercise, healthy food, sleep and oral hygiene.

The children especially enjoyed our hands-on learning experiences. We planted sunflower seeds and observed their growth in a plant diary. We also learnt about the life cycle of a duck and were very lucky to look after our own ducklings, linking our learning to The Ugly Duckling.

We are very proud of the progress the children have made this half term.

This half term may have been short, but we have been incredibly busy!

In History, we explored the Great Fire of London and thoroughly enjoyed learning about this significant event from the past. In DT, we had great fun designing and building our own vehicles, showing creativity and teamwork.

During Reading, we focused on poetry and discovered a range of new stories, our favourite being The Lorax, as it helped us understand more about our planet and the importance of protecting our trees. In Science, we carried out a variety of exciting experiments using different materials, which helped us develop our curiosity and investigative skills.

It’s been an incredibly busy and productive term so far, with our students diving into a fascinating range of subjects.

In Art, we’ve been exploring the intersection of engineering and creativity through mechanics, while our Maths lessons have seen us mastering multiplication and money before transitioning into the study of angles and shapes.

Our journey through History has been equally gripping; we’ve explored the impact of the Plague, using it as a lens to understand the vital evolution of modern medicine and the pivotal changes that shaped the healthcare we rely on today.

We have had a lovely half term in Year 2!

In Geography and Shared Reading, the children have been busy exploring the rainforest and learning about its unique environment.

In Art, we have been introduced to the skill of printmaking, where the children have enjoyed experimenting with different techniques. Additionally, our Science lessons have focused on how to look after our bodies and the importance of staying healthy.

It has been another action-packed half term for Year 3!

In History, we have been traveling back in time to explore the fascinating world of Ancient Rome, while our Science lessons have focused on the natural world as we learn all about plants and how photosynthesis plays an essential role. Things got even more hands-on in DT, where the children turned into bakers to design and make their own delicious bread!

In Reading, we have been captivated by the storytelling of Michael Morpurgo in Toro! Toro!. Meanwhile, our Literacy lessons have focused on mastering new genres, with the children working incredibly hard to write professional-standard playscripts and detailed recounts.

It has been an action-packed few weeks in Year 4 as our students dive deep into new worlds, both past and present.

In Science, we have turned into budding botanists, exploring the intricate parts and functions of plants to understand how they grow and thrive.

Our History lessons have taken us back to the age of the Anglo-Saxons, where students have been investigating how these formidable groups rose to power and shaped the England we know today.

Finally, the classroom has been filled with suspense during our English sessions; we are currently reading Malamander, and the mysterious secrets of Eerie-on-Sea have kept everyone on the edge of their seats. The students are buzzing with theories, though none of us are quite sure what is lurking in the mist just yet!

This term, Year 5 students have been diving into a diverse and hands-on curriculum that balances technical skill with emotional reflection.

In Science, the classroom has sparked to life as students explore the mechanics of electrical circuits, learning how to manipulate components like cells, wires, and bulbs to create functioning loops. This precision carries over into Maths, where pupils are mastering the geometry of translation, shifting shapes across grids with accuracy.

The creative energy continues in Art, with students getting their hands messy during clay modelling sessions to transform raw materials into textured 3D forms.

Finally, the heart of the term lies in Shared Reading; the class is currently immersed in “Wonder” by R.J. Palacio, sparking poignant discussions about empathy, kindness, and the power of looking beyond the surface.

What a busy, brilliant, and action-packed term it has been in Year 6! As we approach the end of the term, we wanted to share a quick update on all the fantastic learning that has been taking place in our classroom.

First and foremost, we are incredibly proud of the maturity and dedication the children have shown towards their SATs preparation. They have been working exceptionally hard, practicing their skills, and building their confidence. We know that this can be a daunting time, but the children are approaching their revision with a fantastic attitude. Thank you to all the parents and carers for your continued support with reading and homework at home—it really does make a massive difference.

In our English lessons, we have challenged ourselves with some incredibly complex and classic literature. The class has read not one, but two phenomenal texts this term! We explored the tragic and dramatic world of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, and then traveled back in time to experience the epic Anglo-Saxon heroics of Beowulf. The children have produced some wonderful, high-level writing inspired by these stories, showing great empathy and imagination.

Our History focus this term has been World War One. The class has engaged with this sensitive topic with deep respect and thoughtfulness. We have been learning about the causes of the conflict, life in the trenches, and the profound impact the war had on the world.

In Science, we have been getting hands-on with our topic on electrical circuits.

The children have loved investigating how electricity works, learning how to draw scientific circuit diagrams, and experimenting with different components to see how voltage affects the brightness of bulbs and the volume of buzzers.

Finally, to balance out all that hard work, we have been getting creative (and a little bit messy!) in Art and Design. The children have been designing, molding, and painting their very own clay monsters. It has been wonderful to see their unique personalities shine through in their creepy and colourful creations!

It’s been a busy and productive term for Leappad 1!

Our young scientists used coloured water to see how the xylem works, watching the water travel right up the stems. In literacy, the children enjoyed retelling and rewriting the story of The Hare and the Tortoise from their shared reading book.

Our maths groups have been working hard too; while half the class mastered identifying coins and finding different ways to give change, the other half learned all about clocks and telling the time. We also celebrated World Book Day, where the children brought in their favourite books to share and had a brilliant time making masks of their favourite characters.

On top of all that, everyone is staying active with our gymnastics sessions every other week!
